1. The nature and task of the course

The course of introduction to civil engineering is the basic essensial course to the new students. It has conducted 4 rounds of teaching.

The open time of the course is in the first semester every year, and the period of the course is  about  30  hours.

 

2. The essential and object of the course

2.1 Introduction to the course

(1) The novelty: Introduce the latest research results and the development trends of CE, in particular, to introduce the results of our research team, which we called scientific feeding teaching.

    (2) The fusion of hard and soft professional that is between CE and engineering management.

    (3) Internationalization. Professors appointed from abroad will give lectures. We will let students see typical status of CE.

    (4) Practicality [praktikalety]. Practice after every teaching of chapter is arrenged.

(5) The large amount of information. In the teaching process, we will give a large amount of information to students through the technology of link in the net work.

2.2 Teaching Content

It is a course of introduction to civil engineering major. Its purpose is to inspire the students to seek knowledge and to stimulate study interests. Systematic introduction of the framework and key intellectual discipline of Civil Engineering (including engineering management). It is playing a guide role through the whole undergraduate learning period, even to help their future employment and occupation development.

The specific contents are:

 (1) Connotation of Civil Engineering

 (2) Civil engineering material.  Like concrete, steel and CFRP, that means Cabon Fiber Reinforced Plomer, and so on.

 (3) Geotechnical engineering. Like forms of basis.

(4)Building engineering. Like loads, the forms of structures.

 (5)Traffic engineering and hydraulic. Like road engineering, railway engineering.

(6 ) Municipal[munisipl] engineering. Like urban roads and bridges.

(7)Building environment and equipment engineering. Like heating engineering and air-conditioning engineering.

(8) Civil engineering disaster prevention and mitigation. Like engineering disasters and detection.

 (9)Bridge and tunnel engineering. Like forms of structures in bridges.

 

2.3 Teaching Object

(1) To carry on professional and ideological education for the new students, which is very important.

    (2) To set forth the importance of civil engineering disciplines in the world and in our life.

    (3) To introduce the achievements and information of technology in civil engineering in the world, in particular in China. Because in the area of civil engineering, China is not only a large country, but also a powerful country in some ways.

    (4) In the last, looking to the development  of civil engineering in the future.
